EPACENTER is pleased to announce the appointment of Adriana Copete as its first artist-in-residence.

The inaugural Artist-in-Residence program at the EPACENTER is designed to offer artists time and space to create and design ambitious, large-scale, public art projects in the City of East Palo Alto. The Residency aims to provide a bridge between an emerging master artist’s work and the experience of their artwork by the citizens of East Palo Alto. Projects must produce work of exhibition quality and must engage the public-at-large. The program is by invitation only and features an exhibition of the artist’s work, a public lectures and artist talk, and workshops and master classes.

Adriana Copete is a Colombian media producer and animator with a graduate degree in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts. Her animation style mixes digital media, hand-drawn techniques, and stop-motion animation with memory, oral narratives, and documentary. Her film credits include Busking Tales, Drowning Thoughts and Wind Up Memories.

During Adriana’s residency at EPACENTER, she will work with the community on designing a 360-degree animation documentary project on the meaning of home. Youth and community members will explore what makes their house / apartment feel like home, what makes them feel they belong, and the sound and colors that remind them of their neighborhood.

The project will be exhibited at EPACENTER’s spring culmination on June 8, 2019.
