When we started this journey 10 years ago of building an art and cultural center for youth in East Palo Alto so they could develop the creative skills they need to succeed, we knew then that it would take hard work, fortitude and determination to stay the course no matter what happened. Although construction on our building has ceased due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we’re dedicated to fulfilling our mission so nothing will turn us back now.
So we’re excited to announce the launch of new online programming for youth who are sheltering in place at home. This programming will include new live, interactive classes in every creative discipline – art, music, dance, photography, animation, and film. And for the first time, we’ll offer free art therapy classes for youth as well. Classes will run from Monday, April 6 through Saturday, May 2.
But that’s not all. We’re also harnessing the power of art and culture to lift our spirits, inspire us, and bring our community together. We’ll be hosting virtual museum field trips, solo concerts, dance parties, and contests in film, dance, drawing, and creative writing for youth as well. These may be dark times that we’re navigating through, but the creative power of the human spirit can light our way.
It has taken a lot of work to shift gears in this time of uncertainty, and we’re especially appreciative of our instructional staff, and our Youth Advisory and Parents’ Advisory Councils who helped make the shift happen.
More information on the class sign up process is coming soon!
